Back-to-back wins this past week over highly-ranked opponents helped UNC move up three spots this week to No. 5 in the new edition of the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25.
This represents the highest the Tar Heels (22-5, 12-2 ACC) have been ranked all season.
After Duke suffered a loss at the hands of UNC last Wednesday, Gonzaga moved up to take over the No. 1 spot in the poll.
Behind Gonzaga in the top five is No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Kentucky and the Tar Heels.
UNC has played each of the four teams in front of it already this season, posting a 2-2 record with wins over Gonzaga and Duke.
The back half of the top 10 consists of: No. 6 Michigan State, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 8 Houston, No. 9 Michigan and No. 10 Marquette.
Other ACC teams ranked besides Virginia, Duke and UNC include: No. 18 Florida State and No. 20 Virginia Tech.
