Maycee Bell’s goal with just over 20 minutes remaining on Friday night at Dorrance Field provided the difference on the scoreboard as the No. 2 UNC women’s soccer team held on for a 3-2 win over the No. 9 USC Trojans in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
As a result, the Tar Heels move on to the College Cup for the 29th time in the program’s 38-year history.
Bell’s goal broke a 2-2 tie, after Emily Fox and Brianna Pinto had each already scored for UNC earlier in the match. Both teams ended the night with seven shots on goal.
The Tar Heels improved their record this season to 23-1-1 as they seek to end the program’s longest national title drought ever, a streak dating back to 2012.
USC ends its season with a record of 17-5-1.
