Senior Julia Ashley scored a goal in double overtime Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, lifting the UNC women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Georgetown–a win that has the Tar Heels just one victory away from their first NCAA championship since 2012.

It was the first meeting ever between the two teams in the sport, with UNC improving to 21-3-2 on the season and Georgetown dropping to 21-1-3.

The Tar Heels piled up 20 shots in the match compared to just nine for the Hoyas, but it wasn’t until Ashley scored off of an assist from freshman forward Rachael Dorwart that the outcome was decided.

As a result, UNC will now play Florida State for the third time this season to decide the national champion.

The Tar Heels won the first meeting during the regular season, before the Seminoles took a victory in the ACC Championship Game.

Sunday’s match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
