Led by two goals from junior forward Alessia Russo, the second-ranked UNC women’s soccer team picked up a dominant 5-0 victory over the Belmont Bruins on Saturday in Chapel Hill as part of the first round of this year’s NCAA Tournament.
In addition to Russo’s scoring, the Tar Heels (20-1-1) also got one goal apiece from Emily Fox, Ru Mucherera and Bridgette Andrzejewski.
Russo’s first goal put UNC ahead 1-0 in the 22nd minute, while Andrzejewski and Fox each scored over the following six minutes to help the Tar Heels build a 3-0 halftime lead.
For the match, UNC tallied up a whopping 44 shots and held Belmont without a single one–illustrating just how dominant a performance it was.
Belmont finishes the season with a record of 8-9-5 after winning the Ohio Valley Conference.
