It’s on to the Round of 16 for the UNC women’s soccer team, which posted a dominant 4-1 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary–a match that was part of the NCAA Tournament Second Round.

Freshman Rachael Dorwart scored twice to lead the Tar Heels (19-3-1), who are in search of their first national title since 2012.

UNC went ahead in just the 12th minute of play, when freshman Brianna Pinto’s header beat Kansas goalkeeper Sarah Peters. Another header–this one from senior Annie Kingman in the 42nd minute–then doubled the Tar Heel lead.

Not much more than two minutes after Kingman’s goal, Pinto found Dorwart with a great assist –as she struck it home for her first goal of the evening to give UNC a 3-0 lead at the halftime break.

She then added another goal in the 66th minute just for good measure.

UNC was in control for the majority of the game, racking up 18 total shots compared to just seven for Kansas.

The Jayhawks were finally able to break through, however, in the 82nd minute when a low shot from Katie McClure slipped past the Tar Heels’ backup goalkeeper Claudia Dickey.
