After a historic fall season competing for the UNC men’s golf program, teammates Austin Greaser and Ryan Gerard have received some national recognition. The two Tar Heels were included among 13 others in the fall watch list for the Haskins Award, which honors the top male collegiate golfer.

The players were selected by a panel from both Golfweek and the Golf Channel. Earlier this season, the UNC men’s golf team reached No. 1 in the Golfweek NCAA polls. Gerard is ranked No. 8 in Golfweek’s poll of individual male collegiate golfers, while Greaser is No. 13. UNC, Oklahoma and Arizona State are the only programs to have two players included in the watch list.

Both Gerard and Greaser have placed first individually in tournaments this season. Gerard won the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham to open the fall campaign, while Greaser did the same at the Olympia Fields Invitational in Illinois just a week later. As a team, Carolina won both tournaments. A win in the Williams Cup in October, in which Greaser placed fifth and Gerard 11th, marked UNC’s third tournament win of the fall season in four tries.

Gerard is a fifth-year senior from Raleigh who was named the ACC’s Men’s Golfer of the Month for September. Greaser, a junior from Vandalia, OH, placed second at the U.S. Amateur Championship during the summer, and will compete in the 2022 Masters and U.S. Open tournaments as a result.

Carolina will not compete in another golf tournament until February.
