This series of posts will be made weekly on Chapelboro with a full schedule of UNC sports contests, both in Chapel Hill and elsewhere. Note that game times and broadcast information are subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors.

The first week of September means that fall sports are well and truly back in Chapel Hill. While the UNC football team has the weekend off as it returns from a successful trip to Ireland, the volleyball and field hockey teams will both be at home. Meanwhile, the men’s and women’s soccer teams will both be on the other side of the country.

Monday, Aug. 31

The men’s golf team will open up the fall portion of its season Monday in the Visit Knoxville Collegiate at Fox Den Country Club in Farragut, TN. The event is hosted by the University of Tennessee and will run through Tuesday.

Thursday, Sep. 3

Head coach Mike Schall’s volleyball team is off to a 2-0 start to the season, and the Tar Heels will look to keep the good times rolling when they host James Madison at Carmichael Arena at 7 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra

Out in the desert, the women’s soccer team is back from its own Ireland trip and will face Arizona in a true road match in Tucson. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. Eastern time.

Friday, Sep. 4

Volleyball is back at it for the second straight night, as UNC will host Colorado State at Carmichael Arena. First serve is set for 6 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra

Erin Matson’s field hockey program will stage its home opener at Karen Shelton Stadium Friday when it hosts Penn as part of the ACC-Ivy League Conference Crossover. The game with the Quakers is scheduled for 6 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network Extra

Sunday, Sep. 6

In the second game of the Conference Crossover, field hockey will host Princeton at Karen Shelton Stadium. The start time is set for 12:30 p.m. TV channel: ACC Network

Out in Arizona, the women’s soccer team will play the second match of its desert weekend when it visits Arizona State in Tempe. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Eastern time.

Meanwhile, the men’s soccer team is making an epic road trip of its own. The Tar Heels will visit Cal in Berkeley Sunday night in the first-ever meeting between the two schools as conference foes. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Eastern time. TV channel: ACC Network Extra
