UNC finished 19-under par after three rounds of play at the NCAA’s Bryan Regional in Texas this week, earning fourth place and qualifying for the NCAA Championship in California next week. It’s the eighth time in the last nine seasons the Tar Heels have advanced to the NCAA Championship.

Carson Bertagnole was UNC’s highest individual finisher, shooting 5-under par in the first round and finishing 10-under to tie for fifth place. He also tied the fourth-best score to par by a Tar Heel in an NCAA Regional, and his fifth-place finish is the best by a UNC freshman since 2019. Teammate Andrew Riley was the only other Tar Heel to shoot under par in all three rounds, finishing 7-under and tying for 11th place.

On the team leaderboard, UNC’s team score of 19-under par trailed first-place Texas (45-under), second-place Texas A&M (40-under) and third-place Chattanooga (23-under). Tennessee finished in fifth place at 18-under to also qualify for the NCAA Championship.

UNC will be one of 30 teams to compete at the NCAA Championship next week. After three rounds of stroke play, that field will be cut to 15 teams for the fourth round. The top eight finishers after the fourth round will qualify for the match play portion of the championship, which determines the national champion.

Both the UNC men’s and women’s golf teams have now qualified for the NCAA Championship. The women’s team finished second in its regional last week, which was played at Chapel Hill’s Finley Golf Club.
