After a successful start to the season which included two tournament wins and a first-place individual finish, UNC senior Ryan Gerard was named the ACC Men’s Golfer of the Month for September.

Gerard finished first overall at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational in Durham with a 15-under score for the three day event, tied for the lowest in tournament history and the fifth-lowest score in UNC history. He followed that up with by tying for seventh place overall at the Olympia Fields Invitational in Illinois. As a team, Carolina won both tournaments.

Bolstered by Gerard’s strong play, the UNC men’s golf program reached No. 1 in the Golfweek poll in late September.

Gerard tied for sixth place at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Arkansas earlier this week, the best finish by a Tar Heel at the event. His final round score of 65 was the best of any of the 53 competitors in the tournament. As a team, Carolina tied for fourth place among ten teams in the field.

Currently, Gerard is ranked No. 5 in Golfweek’s poll of male collegiate golfers. To view the full poll, click here.

Gerard is a fifth-year senior from Raleigh. He was named an Academic All-American for the 2020-21 season, and is third in UNC history in stroke average. As a freshman in 2018, Gerard set the UNC program record by shooting a 10-under 61, the lowest round ever recorded by a Tar Heel man.

With the monthly win, Carolina now holds both the Men’s and Women’s ACC Golfer of the Month awards, as UNC’s Krista Junkkari won the September honor earlier this week.
