Welcome to Woman Crush Wednesday!

This week, join 97.9 The Hill’s Ali Evans for a conversation with Eugenia Floyd, who was recently named Teacher of the Year by Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools!

Floyd teaches fourth grade, and has seven years worth of experience in front of a classroom. Of course, the second half of the most recent school year has presented some unexpected — and unprecedented — challenges.

“We have a really great team within my school, as well as in the school system, that worked really hard to make sure that we could connect with our students,” said Floyd. “… Our school guidance counselors, our administrators, our ECE teachers. We all just really worked together to make sure that we were giving all the kids what they needed.”

Working with students and staying in communication through technology, Floyd’s curriculum continued through the end of the year — but her concern for the safety of students isn’t fading anytime soon.

“Even when I meet my children on the first day of school, one of the things we talk about is the safety of our class,” said Floyd. “I know that our state and our district officials, all of the people who are having this conversation about what the school year will look like are making sure that the safety of students — as well as staff — is the number one priority.”

To hear more about teaching students in extenuating circumstances, taking care of business and making sure you’re putting out the best version of yourself every day, listen to Ali and Eugenia’s full conversation below!
