“I love this community. I have been a part of the larger Chapel Hill-Durham community since I was 18 years old and came up here to Carolina and it is a special community. And we do have a lot of education and a lot of wealth in this community,” said Hagman. “And because of those things, it’s very easy to ignore the fact that within the midst of plenty, there is serious want — that we have children in this community that are either food insecure or flat out starving. And even if this does not express your reality in your home, because we’re all in this same community, it does impact you. A society and a community are really only as good as how we take care of the neediest links.”
