In a matchup of two teams yet to lose in conference play this season, the No. 3 UNC women’s soccer team cruised to a 5-1 blowout over the Louisville Cardinals at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

Alessia Russo and Taylor Otto each scored twice for the Tar Heels, with Dorian Bailey adding the other goal against the Cardinals (9-2, 3-1 ACC)–who had not allowed a single goal in their first three ACC matches.

Louisville took the lead early on after a goal in the sixth minute from Emina Ekic, but UNC tied things up when Russo scored on a direct free kick just over 10 minutes later.

Russo, Bailey and Otto then added three more tallies for the Tar Heels prior to halftime.

Both of Otto’s goals came on penalty kicks, with the second coming just three and a half minutes into the second half.

From there, UNC was content to sit on its lead and take the victory without receiving much of a threat from the Cardinals the rest of the way.
