Having extended its winning streak to eight entering Sunday morning’s match against Louisville, the fifth-ranked UNC women’s soccer team was among the hottest teams in America.

After struggling in a scoreless draw against the Cardinals at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, the Tar Heels saw that streak go by the wayside.

UNC (12-2-1, 8-0-1 ACC) had the edge in shots by a margin of 19-12–which includes a 5-1 advantage in the two overtime periods–but were never able to break through with a game-winner.

Louisville (9-6-2, 3-4-2 ACC) managed to hold strong all day long against the powerful Tar Heel offense, however, receiving five saves from goalkeeper Gabrielle Kouzelos and clearing a shot from UNC’s Taylor Otto off of the goal line.

The Cardinals put only one of their shots on goal, though, as their offense couldn’t quite match up to the play of their defense.
