Fresh off completing an undefeated regular season and winning a fifth straight ACC Tournament title, the UNC women’s tennis team was selected Monday as the top overall seed for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
This marks the first time in the program’s history that it has been the NCAA’s No. 1 overall seed.
UNC (26-0) will begin its quest for a national title on Friday in Chapel Hill against South Carolina State (6-4), with the winner playing on Saturday against either Arkansas (11-10) or Old Dominion (12-4).
The Tar Heels have won their last 44 matches overall dating back to the shortened 2020 campaign, and have hosted an NCAA Regional in 17 of the last 18 years under head coach Brian Kalbas.
UNC last won the NCAA Tournament in 2014, but have won the ITA National Indoor Tournament five times since 2013 — including this year’s event back in February.
