
Saturday saw the top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team move one step closer toward its ultimate goal of an NCAA championship, as the Tar Heels made easy work of Old Dominion in Chapel Hill on the way to a 4-0 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
UNC won the doubles point to gain the early 1-0 lead, then received singles victories from Elizabeth Scotty (6-2, 6-0), Sara Daavettila (6-3, 6-1) and Fiona Crawley (6-2, 6-4) to clinch its spot in the next round.
The Tar Heels improve their record to 28-0 this season and increase their ACC-record winning streak to 46 matches overall.
This marks the 11th consecutive year that UNC has advanced out of NCAA regional play and was also the final home match for seniors Daavettila, Alexa Graham and Makenna Jones–who will finish their careers with a 71-3 record at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

The Tar Heels will face No. 16 seed California next Sunday at the USTA National Center in Orlando.
