Fresh off becoming the first freshman to win the ACC Championship since 2006, UNC’s Peter Fountain was recognized Tuesday as the league’s Golfer of the Month — the second time in the last two months he’s earned the honor.
Fountain’s total score of 10-under-par and 200 strokes tied the all-time ACC Tournament records, and gave him his second tournament victory in his last three events. He also won the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill back in March.
He also becomes the first player to repeat as ACC Golfer of the Month since NC State’ Albin Choi accomplished the feat in 2013.
Fountain is currently ranked as the No. 5 player in the country and has the second-best stroke average (69.33) in the ACC.
He and the Tar Heels will find out their NCAA Regional competition when the field is announced on Wednesday.
