Down by two runs early in Sunday morning’s game against Syracuse in Chapel Hill, the UNC softball team rallied for a 4-2 victory to win the weekend series.

Brittany Pickett struck out 10 batters on the mound to earn her third win of the young season, while the Tar Heels improved to 4-1 following their doubleheader sweep of Boston College on Friday.

After Syracuse (2-2) jumped ahead in the second inning, UNC tied it up in the fourth on a two-run double by Kiersten Licea — then took the lead later that inning on an RBI single from Lexi Godwin.

Kristina Burkhardt drove in the insurance run in the fifth inning, as UNC would hold Syracuse scoreless the rest of the day.
