UNC sophomore Hannah George held Syracuse to just two hits on Friday afternoon in Chapel Hill, helping guide the UNC softball team to a 3-2 victory over the Orange in the first game of a scheduled three-game series.
George also struck out a career-high eight hitters, while only one of the two runs she allowed was considered earned–an RBI double from Syracuse’s Mia Cunnings in the top of the fourth inning.
Campbell Hutcherson, Zoe Goodman and Abby Settlemyre each drove in a run for the Tar Heels, with Settlemyre’s home run in the fifth inning giving UNC a 3-1 lead.
With the victory, UNC improves to 9-11 overall this season with a 3-1 mark against ACC opponents. Syracuse falls to 8-10 overall and 0-1 in the ACC with the loss.
