After taking Friday’s series opener against Syracuse thanks to a gem on the mound from Hannah George, the UNC softball team was unsuccessful in clinching the series on Saturday–as the Orange rolled to a 9-5 victory in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels (9-12, 3-2 ACC) plated five runs on five hits in the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding lead early on.

Through four innings, UNC led the game 5-3 and appeared on the way to claiming another victory.

Syracuse closed the game out in style, however, scoring three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh–all while keeping the Tar Heels from adding to their total.

Campbell Hutcherson led UNC with two RBIs, while Kiersten Licea and Kristina Burkhardt each added one of their own.

The Tar Heel offense was simply unable to keep up with Syracuse’s late surge down the stretch, earning just their second ACC loss of the year to date.
