Seeking a second upset victory this season over No. 4 NC State on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, the UNC women’s basketball team couldn’t quite find the same magic–falling to the Wolfpack by a score of 82-63.

Freshman point guard Deja Kelly led the Tar Heels (11-9, 6-9 ACC) with 14 points in the game, leading a group of four UNC players to reach double figures. Guard Petra Holešínská added 13 points, while Janelle Bailey had 12 and Alyssa Ustby finished with 10.

Shooting just 24 percent in the first half forced the Tar Heels to play from behind the entire day. NC State (15-2, 10-2 ACC) led by 11 points at the end of the first quarter and took a 31-21 lead into halftime.

A jumper by Kelly pulled UNC within eight points midway through the third quarter, but that was the last time the Tar Heels trailed by single digits the rest of the way.

NC State was led by 25 points from guard Jakia Brown-Turner and 20 more from forward Kayla Jones. The Wolfpack did much of their damage inside, as layups accounted for 19 of their 31 made shots.

The loss snapped what had been a three-game winning streak for UNC.
