Exactly one week after defeating No. 1 Notre Dame at home, the UNC women’s basketball team took down another of the sport’s best teams–making the short trip to Raleigh on Sunday and knocking off No. 7 NC State 64-51.

The Wolfpack (21-1, 8-1 ACC) came into the game as the only Division I basketball team–men’s or women’s–to still boast an undefeated record.

UNC (14-9, 5-4 ACC), meanwhile, has now won its last four games and appears to be playing its best ball of the season.

Junior guard Stephanie Watts led the way against NC State, scoring a game-high 20 points while also pulling down eight rebounds. She was joined by sophomore forward Janelle Bailey, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and 17 points from reigning National Player of the Week Paris Kea.

NC State held a 32-31 lead at halftime on Sunday, but UNC took control of the game in the third quarter–outscoring the Wolfpack 19-8 during the period.

The Tar Heels extended their lead to as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter and never allowed NC State to pull back within eight points.

As a result, head coach Sylvia Hatchell’s team made yet another emphatic statement as they look to continue its amazing recovery from a slow start to the season.
