Coming off a blowout win over Pittsburgh this past Saturday–a victory that snapped the program’s first three-game losing streak since 2014–UNC just barely hung onto its spot in the AP Men’s Basketball Top 25 this week, checking in at No. 21.
The ranking is the lowest the Tar Heels (17-7, 6-5 ACC) have been all season.
Villanova held onto its spot at No. 1 yet again this week, with Virginia, Purdue, Michigan State and Xavier making up the rest of the top five.
The back half of the top 10 includes: No. 6 Cincinnati, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 8 Auburn, No. 9 Duke and No. 10 Kansas.
Including UNC, Virginia and Duke, the ACC has a total of five ranked teams–as No. 16 Clemson and No. 25 Miami also made appearances in the poll.
The Tar Heels lost on the road at Clemson last week in a top-25 battle, and will have another one this week as they host Duke at the Smith Center on Thursday.
UNC will then have a shot to exact revenge on NC State–which received votes in this week’s poll–on Saturday when it visits PNC Arena in Raleigh.
