The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles License Plate Agency in Chapel Hill reopened Monday under a new contractor.

The location was closed last July due to what DMV officials described as a “possible violations of state laws.” An update about the new opening said an investigation revealed “improper activity at the agency location.”

The new contractor, The Neal Agency, reopened the DMV office in Gateway Commons on East Franklin Street at 9 a.m. Monday.

The Chapel Hill agency has been operating at that location since 2013. The previous location in University Place was closed due to an embezzlement investigation.
