The License Plate Agency located on East Franklin Street in Chapel Hill is moving to Carrboro.

The office will be closed November 2 and move to a new location at 104 West NC Highway 54 in Carrboro. The new office in Carrboro Plaza is scheduled to open on November 5.

The license plate agency was closed for roughly a month last summer amid an investigation into “possible violations of state law.” A previous License Plate Agency in Chapel Hill was closed after an embezzlement investigation. The agency began operating under a new contractor earlier this year.

Officials said in a release announcing the move that the new location adjacent to a current Driver License office will be beneficial.

The new office will provide more accessible workstations, additional parking and handicap accessibility in a location already familiar to the public.

The office hours will remain 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. after moving to Carrboro.

Customers are encouraged to call (919) 521-8600 to confirm appointments.
