Orange County Commissioners get the spotlight this week in local government, with an agenda that includes an update on plans to regulate data centers – as well as a presentation on last year’s property revaluation, which drew significant pushback from residents. Also this week, the Carrboro Town Council will consider a subscription-based town-wide composting program, which would be the first of its kind in North Carolina – and the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider plans for a new fire station (and dozens of new affordable housing units) on Weaver Dairy Road Extension.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
Orange County Commissioners meet Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. in the Whitted Building. Commissioners will get the final results of an audit on last year’s controversial property revaluation; they’ll also get an update from staff on their work to develop a long-term ordinance governing data centers in Orange County. Read the full agenda here.
The Carrboro Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 6. Council members will consider launching a town-wide curbside composting service, in conjunction with a Raleigh-based company called CompostNow; it would be the first of its kind in North Carolina. Click here for the full agenda, which also includes a discussion of plans for the next two phases of the Bolin Creek Greenway.
The Chapel Hill Town Council meets at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 7. Tops on the agenda: the council will consider a proposal for a new fire station plus 105 affordable housing units on Weaver Dairy Road Extension. Click here for the agenda, which also includes a plan to add 12 more housing units at the Cedars in Meadowmont.
Chatham and Durham Counties
Chatham County Commissioners meet in the Pittsboro courthouse Monday, October 5. They’ll begin at 3 p.m. with a special meeting to receive a presentation on the process of selecting a new county attorney; then they’ll reconvene at 6 p.m. for another special meeting to consider a new policy governing the reinterment of bodies buried in abandoned cemeteries. Durham County Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Monday, October 5. Click here for the agenda, which includes updates on a pair of efforts to provide services and support for Durham’s homeless population.
The Durham City Council meets twice this week, at 7 p.m. Monday, October 5, and again at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 8. Monday’s agenda includes two annexation proposals; Thursday’s agenda includes a presentation on the reconfiguration of Durham’s City Hall. Click here for links to both agendas.
