A list of 265 men’s golfers were each named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for 2018 on Thursday, with UNC placing four Tar Heels among the distinguished group.

Decided upon by the The Golf Coaches Association of America, players must be a junior or senior academically to qualify for selection–while having competed at least three full seasons, participated in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, posted a stroke-average under 76 and maintained a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Representing the Tar Heels on the list were seniors Ben Griffin, Jose Montaño and William Register, along with junior Joshua Martin.

Together, they made up four of five UNC’s starters in the 2018 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship tournament–where the Tar Heels finished 15th overall, the program’s best finish in 15 years.

UNC was also the only ACC school to put four players on the All-America Scholars list.

“This is a special honor, as it means you are getting it done both on the golf course and in the classroom,” UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. “Coach (Matt) Clark and I are thrilled for our players, who worked extremely hard and are deserving of this award. It’s incredible for our program to have four All-America Scholars in the same year.”
