UNC women’s golf head coach Jan Mann announced Thursday that the team has hired Kristen Simpson as the Tar Heels’ associate head coach, which completes the coaching staff heading into the upcoming season.
Simpson spent the last four years as an assistant at Maryland, after doing a stint in the same role at Old Dominion from 2011-14.
As a collegiate golfer at the University of Virginia during the mid-2000’s, Simpson played under Mann–who was then the head coach of the Cavaliers’ program.
“I am thrilled to have Kristen join the UNC women’s golf program as our new associate head coach,” Mann said. “As her former coach, I know that Kristen has a great understanding of the demands put on the student-athlete to perform well in the classroom and to be successful in golf. The experiences that she has had as a Division I coach and a collegiate and professional golfer will have a tremendous impact on our team and the success of our program.
Notable accomplishments for Simpson include winning the 2008 Virginia Stroke Play championship and earning a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll three times.
