A group of five current or former Tar Heels begin play in the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament on Monday in Venice, Florida, as they each try to earn a spot on the top tour in all of women’s golf.

Current UNC senior Brynn Walker is the only one of the group still in college. She joins Allie White (Class of ’12), Maia Schechter (’15), Leslie Cloots (’17) and Kelly Whaley (’19) in their combined attempt to reach the next level.

Walker was the Tar Heel with the best score during the first stage of the qualifying tournament, tying for 15th place overall at 2-under-par.

This current portion of the event will consist of 72 holes over the next four days, under stroke play rules with no cuts.

Players advancing to the Q-Series will compete in Pinehurst, N.C., from Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.

Those who complete the 72 holes this week, but don’t earn a spot in the Q-Series will get membership on the Symantra Tour for 2020–which is similar to a developmental league.
