UNC standout women’s lacrosse midfielder Marie McCool was nominated Monday by the university as its candidate for the NCAA Woman of the Year honor.

The 2018 IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse National Midfielder of the Year spent her career in Chapel Hill putting together a list of accomplishments that ranks among the best in program history.

Adding the NCAA Woman of the Year–which recognizes the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of outstanding female college athlete–would be the latest in a long line of McCool’s achievements.

Throughout her career, McCool has won the ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, the Patterson Medal and a gold medal at the 2017 World Cup–while also being named a First Team All-American in each of the last three seasons.

“Marie is a champion in all ways,” says head coach Jenny Levy. “While at Carolina she excelled in the classroom, led our team on the field and in the community.  The bigger the challenge, the more Marie shined.  During her four years at Carolina, she brought a consistent level of excellence that was unparalleled and tremendously impacted our program’s success.”

The 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced on Sunday, Oct. 28 at an awards dinner in Indianapolis.
