Jamie Ortega and Katie Hoeg each tallied eight points apiece on Friday at Dorrance Field to lead the top-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team to a 20-8 victory over No. 7 Virginia.

The win moves the Tar Heels to 13-0 this season and 7-0 inside the ACC. It’s also the program’s 20th consecutive victory overall, matching the longest streak in school history.

Ortega tallied six goals and two assists, as Hoeg added four goals and four assists in a game UNC dominated right from the start–building a 13-3 lead by halftime.

Caitlyn Wurzburger added four goals and one assist for the Tar Heels, while Tayler Warehime added three goals and an assist of her own.

This also marks the 12th time in 13 games this season that UNC has held its opponent to single digit goals.

With the loss, Virginia falls to 8-5 overall and 3-5 in the ACC.

“We wanted to do a better job than we did offensively last weekend at Notre Dame with finishing the ball,” UNC head coach Jenny Levy said afterwards. “I thought our offensive unit did a really good job going in between the two different defenses they were throwing at us. Our spacing, our timing and our finishing were high-end, and we were patient on getting the shots we wanted to take rather than just taking shots.”
