UNC seniors Jamie Ortega and Taylor Moreno were each chosen Thursday as part of five finalists for this year’s women’s Tewaaraton Award.

The Heisman Trophy of college lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award recognizes the nation’s top player. This is the first time UNC has ever had two players selected as finalists.

Ortega was named the ACC Attacker of the Year after leading UNC in scoring with 73 goals and 23 assists. Moreno earned ACC Defender of the Year honors as a goalie after leading the country with a 5.95 goals against average.

The duo were joined on the list of finalists by Maryland defender Lizzie Colson, Boston College attacker Charlotte North and Northwestern attacker Izzy Scane.

A winner will be announced following the conclusion of the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

UNC enters the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed after going 18-0 and winning the ACC championship. The program has won a school-record 25 straight games when including a perfect 7-0 mark during the shortened 2020 campaign.
