Ally Mastroianni scored with 17.9 seconds remaining on Friday night in Durham, to lift the top-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team to a 12-11 win over No. 7 Duke.

That goal was enough to improve the Tar Heels to 15-0 this season and help them clinch the conference regular season title with a 9-0 mark against ACC opponents.

It also helped UNC avoid a massive letdown, having led the game 8-3 at halftime before Duke came storming back in the second half–tying the game at 11-11 with just over three minutes left on the clock.

Mastroianni finished with three goals in the game, while Caitlyn Wurzburger led the team with five goals and an assist. Their efforts were just what the doctor ordered on a night where UNC’s leading scorer, Jamie Ortega, missed the first game of her career.

UNC will now be the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament, which will be held in Chapel Hill.
