UNC senior attacker Katie Hoeg was chosen Tuesday as the women’s lacrosse program’s Kellie Thompson Shiley Award winner.

The honor is presented annually within the team to a player who excels in the classroom and on the field, displays outstanding leadership at all times, sets a positive example for younger players and has a true passion for the game of lacrosse.

It celebrates former UNC star Kellie Thompson–who was a three-time All-American from 1999-2002 and led the Tar Heels to the 2002 NCAA Semifinals. Thompson passed away suddenly in 2012.

On the field, Hoeg is second in NCAA history with 227 career assists and is the top point scorer in UNC history.

She recently graduated with a major in biology and minors in both chemistry and English. Hoeg was also named a recipient of an ACC Weaver James Corrigan Postgraduate Scholarship Award in 2020 and will attend dental school at UNC in the fall.
