The NBA is coming to Chapel Hill.

News was announced Monday that the Charlotte Hornets–owned by a legendary Tar Heel you may have heard of named Michael Jordan–will hold training camp and play a preseason game against the Boston Celtics at the Dean E. Smith Center.

The team will practice in the building from Tuesday, Sep. 25 through Thursday, Sep. 27 before facing the Celtics on Friday, Sep. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

It marks the first time the Hornets have played a preseason game in the Triangle since playing at Raleigh’s PNC Arena back in 2012, and their first visit to the Dean Dome since playing in the arena twice back in 2006.

Charlotte has previously played preseason games at the Smith Center in 1988, 1990 and 1999.

Tickets for the event will go on sale this Thursday at 10 a.m.

“We are excited to bring Hornets basketball back to the Smith Center for the first time in more than a decade,” said Hornets President & Vice Chairman Fred Whitfield. “We look forward to opening the preseason portion of our 30th Anniversary season with the great basketball fans in the Triangle.”
