It was a productive weekend on the course for the UNC men’s golf program, which saw a pair of former Tar Heel teammates each pick up tournament victories.
Recent graduate Ben Griffin–who now plays on the PGA’s MacKenzie Tour in Canada–took home the title at the Staal Foundation Open in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Griffin birdied the final three holes of the event to win by one stroke, while finishing the tournament with a fantastic score of 22-under-par.
In addition, rising UNC senior Joshua Martin claimed the trophy at the Carolinas Amateur in his hometown of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
A second-round 66 helped Martin build a lead he wouldn’t relinquish, as he held on in the final round with a 73 to finish three strokes ahead of second place. It was Martin’s third career Carolinas Golf Association victory, and first since 2015.
