He may not be wearing the Tar Heel uniform anymore, but recent UNC graduate Kenny Selmon is still leaving opponents in the dust.

On Sunday–while competing for Team USA at the 2018 Athletics World Cup in London–Selmon brought home the 400-meter hurdles world championship with a time of 48.97 seconds.

The run was good enough to defeat second place Patryk Dobek of Poland by 0.05 seconds, while top-ranked Annsert Whyte of Jamaica finished in fifth.

It was also Selmon’s first appearance on the track since claiming the national championship in the same event at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships–his final race as a Tar Heel.

“I am the strongest I have been so I knew I could finish strongly,” Selmon said. “It’s a huge confidence boost because you have got world and national champions here so to come out here and get the win for the USA is big for me.”
