UNC senior hurdler Kenny Selmon was recognized Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association as the men’s track Southeast Region Athlete of the Year.
A four-time All-American at UNC, Selmon is currently ranked second nationally in the 400-meter hurdles after running a time of 48.91 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round to qualify for next week’s NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
So far this season, Selmon is undefeated in all heats he’s run in the 400-meter hurdles.
Last year’s NCAA Final also saw Selmon set the all-time UNC record in the event, when he posted a time of 48.60–breaking a mark that had previously stood for 22 years.
