Behind a career-high eight goals and four assists from sophomore attacker Jamie Ortega, the No. 2 seed UNC women’s lacrosse team rolled to a 19-9 blowout victory in Wednesday’s ACC Tournament Quarterfinals over the No. 7 seed Virginia Tech Hokies.
Ortega’s 12 points set new records for both the UNC program and the entire ACC Tournament, and her 90 points on the season also broke another school record.
In addition to Ortega’s standout performance, the Tar Heels (13-3) also received six goals from freshman Tayler Warehime and six assists from Katie Hoeg.
Virginia Tech (8-10) led 6-5 early in the game, but a run of five consecutive goals from UNC helped the Tar Heels pull away for good the rest of the way.
