The No. 3 ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team closed out the regular season in style on Saturday at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, pulling off a 19-5 beatdown over the 13th-ranked Duke Blue Devils.

Sophomore Jamie Ortega scored six goals–more than Duke’s entire team–while Olivia Ferrucci tied the Blue Devils (9-7, 2-5 ACC) with five of her own.

UNC also received two goals apiece from Katie Hoeg, Kara Klages and Ally Mastroianni.

A 7-0 run by the Tar Heels (12-3, 5-2 ACC) midway through the game proved to be the difference maker, as Duke was never able to muster a serious threat at any point after that.

With the win, UNC also clinches the No. 2 seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.

“I’m really happy with tonight’s game,” head coach Jenny Levy said afterwards. “I really didn’t know what to expect as far as it’s a Duke-Carolina matchup, and that’s always a good game. I just thought we played a complete game. I loved the energy we played with, the intensity. I thought we played on our toes and with our heads on a swivel.”
