After taking first overall at the Adidas XC Challenge last weekend and helping UNC to a team victory as well, freshman Parker Wolfe of the UNC men’s cross country team was named ACC Freshman of the Week.

The Adidas event was Wolfe’s first race with the Tar Heels, as he sat out the Charlotte Opener earlier in September. Carolina also won that event. The Adidas XC Challenge saw Wolfe take first with a time of 17:48.0, ahead of competitors from Duke, NC State and Wake Forest. After the win, the UNC men’s team moved up six spots in national polls to No. 23 overall.
Wolfe is from Denver, CO, and was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year for boys’ cross country while competing for Cherry Creek High School. His win marks the second consecutive year that a UNC cross country athlete has won their first-ever race. Sasha Neglia of the women’s team did so last season, on her way to winning ACC Freshman of the Year honors. Neglia also won ACC Co-Performer of the Week earlier this month.
Wolfe and the men’s team will next be in action at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, PA on October 1.
