Another UNC cross country athlete is turning heads inside the Atlantic Coast Conference. After Parker Wolfe of the men’s team won the conference’s Freshman of the Week award earlier in the month, Brynn Brown of the women’s team has done the same this week, winning ACC Freshman of the Week and ACC Performer of the Week on Tuesday.

Brown, a freshman from Denton, TX, won the Battle in Beantown 5K on Friday, September 24, which was her first collegiate race. Brown’s time of 16:53, eight seconds better than her next competitor, led the 195-woman field.

“Brynn ran a great tactical race to win her first college competition,” head coach Dylan Sorensen said afterward. “And our whole pack competed with resilience over the second half of the race.”

With Brown at the front, the women’s cross country team won the team race, finishing ahead of second-place Providence and third-place Duke. The win moved their national ranking up from No. 13 to No. 12. The Tar Heel men’s and women’s teams have won all three races they have competed in so far this year. The women’s team will be back in action on October 15 in Tallahassee, FL for the FSU XC Invite.
