UNC senior Parker Wolfe set a new course record and won the individual title at the prestigious Nuttycombe Invitational 8,000-meter race in Madison, WI on Friday. Wolfe crossed the line with a time of 23:04.0, nearly three seconds ahead of second place. Fellow Tar Heel runner Ethan Strand came in second with a time of 23:25.4.

As a team, Carolina placed fourth in a loaded field at the event, behind BYU, Iowa State and Wake Forest.

It was the first race of the 2024-25 season for Wolfe and his first representing Carolina since winning the outdoor 5,000-meter title in June. The two-time All-American is the reigning ACC Men’s Runner of the Year in Cross Country and the ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Year. He led the Tar Heels to ACC titles in both cross country and indoor track during the 2023-24 season.

The UNC men’s cross country team was ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Region and No. 6 nationally in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. The women’s team, which also competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday and placed seventh, is ranked No. 18 in the poll.

Both teams will be back in action when they race in the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey on October 18.
