Sophomore Parker Wolfe of the UNC cross country team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Runner of the Year Tuesday. He is the first Tar Heel man or woman to ever win the prestigious honor.

Wolfe led Carolina to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Championships in November, the program’s best finish at the event since 1985 and only the second top 10 finish in team history.

Wolfe was the top ACC male finisher at the championship, coming in ninth place in the 10K at 29:00.4. The Denver, CO, native also finished as the runner-up at the Southeast Region Championships and the ACC Championships this season, missing first by just a half-second in the latter race. He also won the individual title at the Paul Short Run in September.

Wolfe has racked up awards this season, as he was also named the USTFCCCA Men’s Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year and an All-American. He was named ACC Freshman of the Year in 2021 while also earning All-ACC and All-America honors.
