Two impressive showings by the UNC women’s and men’s cross country teams earned solid finishes at the ACC Championships Friday morning in South Bend, IN.

In the women’s 6k race, freshman Brynn Brown finished first among her teammates and sixth overall with a time of 20:29.1.  Senior Paige Hofstad wasn’t far behind, finishing in 10th place. With Brown and Hofstad leading the way, Carolina as a team finished in second place, behind only NC State. It is their highest finish since 2014. Kelsey Harrington and Sasha Neglia gave the Tar Heels four runners in the race’s top 20. The field began with 138 competitors.

In the men’s 8k race later that morning, UNC once again placed two runners in the top 10. Freshman Parker Wolfe and senior Jack Aho finished in seventh and ninth places, respectively. The men’s team finished the event in fourth place, which is also their best result since 2014. Carolina and Syracuse are the only programs to finish in the top four in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

Both Brown and Wolfe won ACC Freshman of the Year honors for their performances this season. Brown’s win is the fifth in the history of the women’s team, while Wolfe is just the second Tar Heel man to capture the award. It is the first UNC sweep of the male and female honors in program history.
