To begin their season on Friday at the Virginia Invite, the UNC cross country team took home first place on the women’s side of the event — defeating runners from both Virginia and Wake Forest to do so.

Tar Heel freshman Sasha Neglia claimed first place individually, followed by fellow Carolina runner Paige Hofstad in second. A total of six UNC runners finished among the top nine, giving the team an average time of 17:19.74–which was better than any individual time posted by the two opposing teams.

On the men’s side, UNC came in third place with freshman Will Coogan the top performer after finishing seventh.
