Taking part in the four-team Wolfpack Invite on Wednesday morning at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, the UNC women’s cross country team took home second place while the Tar Heel men claimed a third-place finish.

Runners from NC State, Duke and Virginia also took part in the event, with the Wolfpack winning the women’s race and the Cavaliers earning the victory on the men’s side.

A pair of freshmen led the way for the Tar Heels, with Will Coogan’s 8K time of 24:09.6 good enough for 10th place overall among the men and Sasha Neglia’s 5K time of 17:29.5 good enough for third place among all women competing.

This was just the second competitive meet of the season for the Tar Heels, who will return to action on Oct. 16 in Kernersville against Wake Forest and NC State.
