After winning the 2020 ACC Freshman of the Year award, Sasha Neglia of the UNC cross country team is wasting no time adding to her trophy case for this season. For her performance in the cross country team’s win at the Charlotte Opener, Neglia was named ACC Co-Performer of the Week, along with Florida State’s Lauren Ryan.

Neglia shattered the 5K course record in Charlotte, clocking in at 17:10.0, 17 seconds better than the previous course record. She finished just .4 seconds ahead of teammate Kelsey Harrington. Neglia and the Tar Heel women claimed the top four spots on the way to a 17-42 victory against the 49ers Friday. The men’s team also emerged victorious at the event, by a score of 23-32.

Neglia, a sophomore from Kingsport, TN, helped the Tar Heel women to their best season in years in 2020, breaking into national polls for the first time since 2015 and ending the year ranked No. 14. The women’s team began this year ranked No. 13.

The teams will have this weekend off before competing again in the Adidas XC Challenge, hosted by NC State in Cary, N.C.
