As we approach the weekend, several services and resources of the local governments in Orange County will be affected by the Good Friday holiday.
Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and Orange County all alerted residents to different schedules, hours and some closures on Friday, April 15. Here are the aspects of the community’s local governments that will see changes:
Town of Chapel Hill
One of the biggest service changes for Chapel Hill is the transit system. Chapel Hill Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule on Friday, meaning no U bus route. Additionally, Safe Rides will not be run Friday or Saturday. Service will run normally on Sunday, April 17.
The town’s administrative offices, as well as the Hargraves Community Center, Teen Center and Community Center Pool, will be closed Friday and Sunday. The Chapel Hill Community Center, Homestead Aquatic Center and Northside Gymnasium, however, will have limited hours both days. The facilities will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will be open on normal hours Friday and Saturday, but will be closed on Sunday.
Residential trash pick-up will not be affected, although yard waste will not be taken on Friday. Commercial trash pick-up will also not be gotten on Friday, with businesses receiving service earlier than usual in the week.
Town of Carrboro
The Town of Carrboro government offices will be also be closed on Friday in observance of the Good Friday holiday. Residents will see solid waste collection affected, with those typically serviced on Fridays receiving pick-up on Monday, April 18.
Town of Hillsborough
Just like Carrboro, the Town of Hillsborough will close its administrative offices on Friday and will reschedule solid waste collection. For residents who typically have trash taken Fridays, service is scheduled to happen on Monday.
Orange County Government
The Orange County government’s offices will be closed on Friday to observe the holiday — but recycling collection will not be affected. The county urged residents to continuing having their recycling carts and bins out by 7 a.m.
Relatedly, the Orange County Landfill and waste/recycling centers will be open on Friday and Saturday, although the landfill will close at noon on Saturday. All facilities will then be closed on Sunday.
The Orange County Public Library and Orange County Senior Centers will be closed on Friday. Operations will return to normal on Saturday for the Seymour Center, as it opens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Passmore Center will remain closed.
