UNC senior diver Anton Down-Jenkins, already decorated for his achievements in the pool, received an award for his achievements in the classroom Thursday, being named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Along with Down-Jenkins, four other UNC student-athletes on the swimming and diving teams were named to the ACC All-Academic team: Sophie Lindner and Ellie VanNote from the women’s team, and Alex Hart and Boyd Poelke from the men’s team.

This is the second straight season Down-Jenkins has been named to the All-Academic team. An Exercise and Sport Science major at UNC, he was named a College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association First Team All-American on both one-meter and three-meter springboard this season. Down-Jenkins won the one-meter event at the ACC Championships and placed second in the three-meter, while placing eighth and sixth in those events, respectively, at the NCAA Championships.

It’s been a year full of honors for Down-Jenkins, who competed at last summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, representing his native New Zealand.

Minimum academic requirements for inclusion on the All-Academic team are a 3.0 grade point average for the most recent semester completed (the Scholar-Athlete of the Year must have maintained a 3.0 GPA for the last two consecutive semesters) and a 3.0 cumulative average for one’s entire career.
