UNC’s Aranza Vazquez Montaño is taking even national championships.

The senior diver from La Paz, Mexico topped the fields in the one-meter and three-meter diving finals at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, GA this week. In the one-meter competition on Thursday night, Vazquez Montaño cleared the rest of the field by more than 24 points. She won the three-meter springboard competition the next night by 22 points.

The titles are Vazquez Montaño’s third and fourth in her decorated collegiate career, making her only the fourth Tar Heel ever to win four individual NCAA titles in any sport. This is the second straight year she has swept the one- and three-meter diving finals. Her wins in 2023 were the first national championships in UNC program history.

Vazquez Montaño is one of three Tar Heel divers competing in Athens this week. Alex Hart and Rodolfo Vazquez Montaño – Aranza’s younger brother – are also representing UNC. Eleven swimmers on the men’s and women’s teams are also competing.

The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships run through Saturday.
